School Open Days

Surfing at school?

Not that I am complaining, but when I was at school (albeit in the UK) the idea of Outdoor Education including a trip to the beach, in this case, Philip Island, to learn to surf, would never have entered our heads. The best we got was muddy cross-country running in the rain! All part of the HCC experience.

Happy Chooks

Happy Chooks! A virtual army of HCC parents descended on the College on Saturday for a working bee. One objective was the ‘Chook Hotel’ and the adjacent veggie garden. The photos may not do it justice, but suffice to say we have some happy chooks! Not sure I can get away with saying our Principal is a happy chook, but he was pleased with the turnout… Still, a great community can do great things when they work together. The spirit of HCC.

Gravitate Camp

Ask one of our fifteen Gravitate students, what is the metanarrative of the Bible?  Or, what would they say if someone asked them, ‘What is unique about the Christian faith?’ Or even, ‘What’s the difference that Jesus has made in their lives?’. Our Gravitate students faced these questions on the weekend at a camp in Phillip Island.  They dug deep and found some really great responses.  The theme for the camp was 1 Peter 3:15: ‘But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect’.

Kids Space Fundraiser with the PFA

Kids Space Fundraiser with the PFA

Our annual Term 1 PFA fundraising event this year will be at Kids Space indoor play center on Friday 24 March from 6:30pm – 9:30pm.  Kids Space is located at15C/56 Keys Road, Cheltenham, 3195.

This will be a fun night where parents and children alike can socialize and get to know one another, especially for our new families.

The PFA will be selling snacks and drinks on the night and there is plenty of seating for parents to sit and relax whilst the kids play.  Tea and coffee will also be available for purchase from the Kids Space café. However, please note that there will be no hot meals available for purchase.

The cost for attending the event is $12 per child 3 years old and over, parents go free.  Please make your payment using QKR via your tiqbiz app.  Alternatively, payment can be made at the College office using the payment slip below by Wednesday 22 March.

We look forward to a great night of fun and friendship!

Mums and Sons Dinner

HCC is very excited to let you know that a very exciting event is happening here at the College on Tuesday 21 March; our first ‘Mums and Sons Dinner’!  This special dinner is for mums and sons from Grade 6 to Year 12 only, who attend Heatherton Christian College.  Our annual ‘Dads and Daughters’ dinner has been a popular event on our College calendar for many years, so we are hoping that we can establish the same tradition with our first ‘Mum and Sons’ dinner.

It is essential for mums and sons to have a close relationship.  Special events such as this are a great way to bring you closer to your son/s and provide lifelong memories.  I encourage you to make this evening a special occasion for you and your son/s.

The dinner will commence at 6:30pm and conclude by 9:00pm.  There will be a delicious three-course buffet style meal, entertainment, special guest speakers (mum and son HCC Alumni), games and dancing.  The price of the ticket will include a special mounted photo of yourself with your son/s taken on the night.  The dinner will be held in the Salt Cafe.  We are not setting a dress code for the night but would encourage you to make a special effort to ‘dress up’.

The planning committee is working hard to make this a special evening.  The Salt Café will be specially decorated and lit for the event, including a photo booth.

Boys from single parent families may be accompanied by another significant adult female on the night, such as an auntie or close family friend.

As numbers are limited, registration will be on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.  We have endeavoured to keep the cost as affordable as possible.  The cost of the dinner will be $25 per person.  Bookings and payment must be made by Friday 17 March.

Booking and payment for the dinner may be made via our new app Qkr which you can access via the tiqbiz quick link or in the College office.  Please notify us of any dietary requirements at the time of booking so that accommodations can be made

Harmony Day

On Wednesday 21 March HCC students (Prep-Year 12) will be celebrating Harmony Day. Our diversity makes Australia a great place to live. Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. The day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The message of Harmony Day is everyone belongs, the day aims to engage people to participate in their community, respect cultural diversity and foster a sense of belonging for everyone.

Students may come to school dressed in clothing from another culture, or the colour orange. The colour orange represents the melding of difference cultures.

There will be lots of special cultural activities planned for the day, beginning with the a special Harmony Day whole assembly in the morning.

HCC Open Day

It is difficult for parents to size up schools from a distance. Window shopping for a school doesn’t work. You actually need to visit the school and meet the staff.

For this reason, we’d love you to visit our Open Day.

When you attend our Open Day, you will see the whole school (Prep-Year 12) operating on a typical school day. You will meet friendly staff, smiling students and other parents.

The Open Day is an ideal opportunity to discover what makes this school unique.
